A free excerpt of Perception because I want to captivate you

I felt a slight tremor underneath my feet. The popping grew stronger. A loud crash, almost like thunder, filled the room. Alana flinched, startled by the loud sound. This wouldn't be a problem if the late morning sun wasn't shedding light through the windows. With each deafening rumble came a tremor, each one stronger than the last. The table swayed back and forth. My milk spilled into my friend's lunch tray, a splash of it hitting his shirt.

Students ran outside in droves to evade what they thought was an earthquake. I held on to the table as I contemplated my next move. Blinding flashes of light filled the window.

"Get under the table! All of you!" I cried.

"But, everyone else is going outside! We should follow them!" Will exclaimed.

"No, that's dangerous," I breathed, "just trust me!"

Will and Nadine knew I was serious. I had told them about me before.

"That's crazy! There's an earthquake! We could die!" Alana exclaimed, her voice trembling.

There was immense fear in her eyes. She knew that this wasn't anything she'd ever seen before.

"Alana, please. I have to stop this. Please. I don't want to hurt you," I begged.
